Over the past few years, the James McCowan Memorial Social History Society has arranged for the Mayor of Scarborough to issue several public proclamations.  Please click on the links above.

Tartan Day in the City of Scarborough
April 6, 1994

In response to a request from the McCowan Society, on March 30 1994 before City Council and the public, Mayor Joyce Trimmer will officially proclaim April 6 1994 as "Tartan Day in the City of Scarborough". The Sixth of April is significant in Scottish history as Scotland declared its independence on that day in 1320. On Tartan Day, we should remember the great contributions that Scots have made to Canadian society. As the author and sponsor respectively, Bruce and I will present City Council with a complimentary copy of the McCowan Society's Fairs and Frolics: Scottish Communities at Work and Play.
